SANE INSANITY is a continuation of its pre-collection Ophelia is Dyeing. In this iteration Shakespeare’s Ophelia’s mental health is questioned. Is she insane or deceptive? The contemporary audience would have known the meaning behind the flowers, Ophelia hands out to characters in the play (Act 4). Her selection hints at her awareness of the intrigues going on at court. She poses as insane and weak, not to appear as a threat.
Exploring sanity and insanity by juxtaposing motion and control, fabric manipulation and flowing elements, rawness and clean tailoring. These craft driven pieces, made from natural fibres and dyed with flowers, caters for the modern, sustainability conscious woman. Alongside the designs, the work proposes a vision for a future retail experience, ‘Digital Couture’. These garments will be made to measure without customers having to leave their homes. By creating a personalised avatar, one can envision oneself in the couture pieces, experiment with styles and try on looks. The avatar enables each pattern to be adapted to ensure the garment fits perfectly.
